An exciting opportunity exists for the permanent full-time position of Mechanical Team Lead at our Kelso manufacturing facility. Simplot Kelso is our seafood and snacking processing plant, producing 75 SKUs for the retail and foodservice markets including Birds Eye, I&J and Captain's Catch branded products. The site employs about 100 people, with approximately 95% of manufactured goods consisting of either Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) or Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) seafood.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Mechanical Team Leader will lead and coordinate a team of mechanical shift and day workers (8 x tradespeople) to meet the site’s Production and Maintenance schedules in order to optimise plant reliability, improve employee safety and minimise costs.

Site equipment includes

  • Slicer presser, fish finger and Formax processing equipment

  • Radio frequency tunnels

  • Dusting, coating and frying equipment

  • Spiral freezing and frozen stores

  • 2 automated, robotic packing and palletising lines

What You Will Do

  • Lead a team of mechanical tradespeople ensuring compliance to all Simplot policies and procedures

  • Set direction and schedule work activities for the mechanical team

  • Coordinate and supervise the safe and effective execution of planned mechanical maintenance work in accordance with the maintenance schedule

  • Respond to unplanned and emergency breakdowns in a timely manner

  • Coordinate and supervise the execution of "opportunity" maintenance activities

  • Assist in the planning & scheduling of mechanical maintenance work, incl. attending maintenance planning & scheduling meetings whilst providing technical input and support

  • Assist the Projects group to develop, install and commission new equipment, modifications and improvements

  • Partner with the wider site (Engineering / Electrical Maintenance / Production ) in a collaborative work environment, ensuring all site stakeholders are kept aware of planned maintenance activities

  • Contribute to the site's reliability strategy

  • Support and provide guidance to the mechanical maintenance team whilst constructively managing any performance issues

  • Lead and participate in departmental and cross-functional continuous improvement activities

  • Facilitate daily pre-start / toolbox meetings with the mechanical maintenance team

About You

  • 100% commitment to health and safety in the workplace

  • Mechanical trade or Engineering background within a manufacturing environment (FMCG experience would be advantageous)

  • Minimum of 3 years supervisory / leadership experience within a maintenance environment

  • Ability to liaise with a wide variety of site stakeholders

  • Advanced knowledge of CMMS (experience in the use of MEX CMMS is highly desirable) in addition to the MS Office suite of products

  • Exposure to LEAN manufacturing principles

  • Willingness to undertake a pre-employment medical (incl. urine based drug & alcohol screen)
